Body cupping works by creating suction, involving the application of decompressed cups, creating a vacuum effect that lifts up the underlying tissues, such as fascia (connective tissue), muscles, blood and other fluids that lie close to the skin. It promotes circulation and increases tissue temperature as well as reducing swelling and has been shown to reduce pain – even chronic pain.

One of the main benefits is that nutrient rich blood is moved into the area that the cup is placed – allowing the bodies healing systems to work more efficiently. Body cupping reduces muscle tension, releases fascia- often where the ‘knots’ are found and detoxifies through lymphatic drainage.
I’m very excited to have completed training in cupping- it can have such profound effects and many people find it extremely relaxing. The cups can be used in isolated areas that need extra work, as part of a body massage treatment or as a full body treatment.
- Please note- cups can leave marks on the body for around a week or in some cases up to 2 weeks. Although they look like circular bruises, they are not bruises, and often appear in areas where the cups have had a strong effect.
